Some questions asked with a heavy heart are not always to be answered. Still, they need to be asked. Some prophecies of things to come are not pleasant to contemplate. Still, they will be revealed by the unyielding passage of time. Some memories are best left buried. Still, what's left behind usually greets you ahead. This bittersweet duality of harsh reality battling sentimentality is one of the core aspects of being human, and nowhere is it better expressed than on Grift's new album "Budet".
The passion and despair found herein claw at your soul and heartstrings, leaving you breathless yet rejuvenated by the sheer force of the emotional outburst carried out by the six diverse songs. With a foundation in both desolate folk and melancholic harsh metal, "Budet" employs traditional instruments such as the lonely chords of a reed organ and exquisite violins, the latter courtesy of Georg Börner (ColdWorld, Sangre de Muerdago.) Erik Gärdefors's vehement, bordering on desperate, vocal outbursts convey the introspective and thoughtful lyrics in a most gripping manner, and the thick rural atmosphere is at the same time both nostalgic, anguish-filled and redeeming.
The long melody lines stretch through the years and brush the leaves of trees long gone, but also ones still to bloom, breathing an aura of timelessness. There is a healing, forgiving and hopeful spirit amidst the solitary gloom, as "Budet" peers into the unknown that is still to come. In Erik's own words: "I would say that this is an album that is more about the future than my previous albums; about things around us that undoubtedly will happen sooner than later."
If you're in pursuit of reflection and contemplation, to explore your mind and soul, to live in times past and times to come, look no further. Grift will take you beyond.

As always I have written all songs and recorded everything alone at my little hermitage. And I have also taken photos for the cover and for every song. But three artists that I really adore have contributed with their own ideas to fulfill my vision.
I am so happy that I got the chance to work with Nathalie Ericson, whose analogue photography I feel a deep connection to. Nathalie has photographed me for the album, and has been very supportive through the whole process.
My friend, Clarissa Bebber, who creates amazing nature motives, has carved out and printed by hand two exclusive illustration that will be part of the album layout. We will use these illustrations for various kind of merchandise.
And my dear friend, Georg Börner, from ColdWorld and Sangre de Muerdago, are playing violin on two songs. Georg really added something new for Grift on these two songs – a liberating kind of feeling. We have toured across Europe together, and I really hope that Georg and I will soon play together again.
It is different than previous releases, nonetheless it is astonishing and beautiful homage to nature. One reproach, like both previous albums this one too flown by so quickly. Do yourself a favor and listen to this music in forest you like to visit. Hedensk Hjerte
Outstanding! This is the word to describe not only "Strävan", but Murg, as a proficient, unique swedish duo. Their ability to craft ferocious hymns, unsophisticated but with plenty of variety and melodic settings is truly impressive. This is an album that stayed with me over the years and I am sure I will keep it close for many years to come. And after hearing it hundreds of times, it still gives me the chills. Timeless, greatly atmospheric and catchy, this is, beyond doubt, a masterpiece! Umbra Cornuta
Music that has nothing to prove which has not already proved and nothing to expect when there is nothing to be expected and that is so liberating :) nakilep
Ukranian metal band Motanka give new meaning to the word “epic,” writing towering songs that combine folk & hard rock. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 10, 2019
Outstanding and magnificent album. Melodies full of magical power and emotions, a voice piercing through the night and forest of pines, beautiful to hear, relaxing, enchanting, amazing work on the synths eclipsing us through a beautiful dark sky. One of the best releases from Lustre, amazing one man band from Sweden. darkenedspirit (Midgard_OBM)
